B.M. and M.M. in Violin Performance
Bio
Phoebe Gelzer-Govatos joined Rudolf Steiner High School in 2016 and teaches chamber music. She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Violin Performance and is active as a performer with regional orchestras and chamber groups. She also specializes in historically-informed performance of 16th–18th century music and collaborates with ensembles across the country. In addition to her work at RSSAA, Phoebe teaches private violin and viola lessons.
Phoebe loves teaching chamber music because it combines her passion for performance with opportunities to guide students in leadership, deep listening, musical creativity, and nonverbal communication. She finds joy in helping students experience the same expansion of musical understanding that she has found through ensemble playing. Outside of music, Phoebe enjoys learning languages, reading and writing poetry, gardening, hiking, practicing yoga, and spending time with her two entertaining cats.
