In middle school, science comes alive through direct experience. Students explore mechanics by constructing their own motors and deepen their understanding of life sciences through class trips that bring learning into the natural world.
Science is not only learned—it is lived. Through hands-on, inquiry-based experiences, students develop careful observation, thoughtful questioning, and independent, critical thinking, building a strong foundation for advanced study in high school and beyond.

At RSSAA, students write, sing, play, and create. The arts are woven throughout the curriculum, nurturing imagination, self-expression, and focused attention. Through artistic work, students deepen their learning, discover their voices, and develop a lasting appreciation for beauty and meaning.

An Interdisciplinary Curriculum for a Complex World
From the soil beneath our feet to the stars above, from Ancient Rome to the Civil Rights Movement, our curriculum invites students to engage with the world in all its richness. Through an interdisciplinary approach, middle school students build a strong foundation in mathematics, science, history and geography, literature, music, world languages, visual and practical arts, and the humanities—developing not only knowledge, but also insight, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.

Preparing students to excel academically is a central focus at the Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor. Our graduates enter high school with a strong foundation in mathematics, science, literature, and writing—alongside confidence and capability across a wide range of disciplines. From designing sets for the class play to speaking German or singing soprano in the school choir, RSSAA students step forward well prepared, well-rounded, and ready to thrive.
