Student life is a vibrant and meaningful part of the middle school experience at RSSAA. Through clubs, athletics, leadership opportunities, and community traditions, students build friendships, develop confidence, and discover new interests beyond the classroom.
Leadership and Service Learning
Middle school students are encouraged to grow as leaders through service work and volunteerism. These experiences offer creative and meaningful ways for students to contribute to the RSSAA community while
developing responsibility, empathy, and initiative.
Mentoring Opportunities
Many 7th and 8th graders volunteer as buddies and for students in Preschool through Grades 4, building relationships across age groups and
serving as positive role models for younger students.
Student Council
Student Council brings together elected representatives from each middle school class to give students a voice in school life. Meeting weekly, council members help plan social events, organize service projects, and discuss student concerns
offering every student the opportunity to participate in leadership.
Athletics
Our interscholastic sports program is open to students in Grade 5 and up, with offerings that include basketball, volleyball, soccer, and track and field. Athletics at RSSAA emphasize teamwork, skill development, and sportsmanship.
Clubs and Extracurricular Activities
Facilitated by engaged parents and faculty, clubs provide students with opportunities to explore interests, collaborate with peers, and form friendships outside the classroom.
Film Club
From script to screen, students explore every stage of filmmaking—including screenwriting, acting, cinematography, editing, and visual effects. Students learn to use media thoughtfully while collaborating creatively. The club hosts screenings and community events, and student work is regularly recognized at film festivals.
Robotics Club
As part of the Steiner Steel Storm, students design, build, and drive robots while developing skills in coding, testing, and problem-solving. Collaboration with other robotics teams and the high school group adds depth and excitement. No prior experience is required—just curiosity and creativity.
Sports Club
Beginning in Grade 4, Sports Club offers a fun, non-competitive introduction to athletics. Students build fundamental motor skills, learn game strategies, and experience teamwork through activities such as volleyball, soccer, basketball, and flag football. The focus is on building skills, confidence, and having fun.
Endless Opportunities
New clubs form each year based on student and family interest. Recent offerings include art, hiking, cooking, and sketching. Bring one of your passions to share, or start a club based on a developing interest that is just beginning to grow.
Festivals and Community Life
Throughout the year, students, families, and teachers gather to celebrate seasonal and multicultural festivals such as Diwali, Michaelmas, Día de los Muertos, and May Day—strengthening community and honoring traditions.

Extended Day Program
In addition to after-school clubs, RSSAA offers an Extended Day Program where students can relax, socialize, and work on homework in a welcoming, mixed-age environment.
