Fiona Carey
HS ELL Teacher

Fiona hails from the woods of northern Michigan. She is a grateful alumna of the Pathfinder School and of Interlochen Arts Academy, communities which shaped her belief in the power of education and inquiry. She earned her BA in Anthropology and French from Kalamazoo College, and her Master’s in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Eastern Michigan University. Fiona has taught in a wide variety of contexts, including teaching English in the French school system in Martinique, and to adult learners in Ypsilanti through Washtenaw Literacy; she’s spent many summers teaching full-immersion French to all ages at Concordia Language Villages in Minnesota, including leading their high school credit program. It is with great pleasure that she joined the language faculty here at RSSAA in 2019. When she’s not in the classroom, Fiona loves writing poetry, hiking along the Huron, and sharing good food and good conversation with dear ones near and far.
