We Love Summer Camp!

Grader Camper helping Golden Eagles CampersIt’s hard to believe that summer is winding down and this is our last week of camp. Many adventures were had and new friends made! Our Golden Eagles students, who are in their final year of Camp Leader and Camperskindergarten and getting ready for Grade One, spent some time together — some for the first time — with students from Grades 1-8 getting a preview of what being a “Grader” is all about.

Camp is such a special place where children who otherwise may not meet become fast friends. The older campers look out for the younger ones and the younger ones look up to them with such admiration and awe. It is really a unique space in our wonderful community for them to spend the summer.

So much fun to be had!

The campers spend much of their time in the woods exploring and learning about nature, only coming inside during inclement weather or to cool off for a snack or rest. In addition to Water Wednesdays, another favorite activity is our obstacle course complete with a zip line. The Graders love this and can be found out there often. Next to the obstacle course is the Gaga Pit which is very popular during the school year, as well as at camp.

Loved by former campers too!

Alum Camp AssistantOne of the truly amazing parts of camp is our alumni students who return in the summer to lead or assist at camp. Both of this year's Early Childhood camp leaders are former students who have returned year after year, bringing such a calm, loving presence to camp. Early Childhood camp leaders and alums, Kaiya Herman-Hilker and Arianna Capraro, work at our school year round, so the campers know them well and feel comfortable being dropped off with them each morning.  Alums Esther Crawford and Nathan Price also joined us this year as camp assistants, and it was truly a joy for the campers to have them here.

Our former Golden Eagles teacher, Elisabeth Sotebeer, joined us at summer camp as well! This was a perfect bridge for the young Golden Eagles campers, who got to spend time with this familiar and beloved teacher. She brought wonderful crafts and the magic of storytelling to camp.

We had two new faces this year. Our Summer Camp Coordinator, Taliyah Wright, who stepped into the fray with confidence and grace and always a smile. Teagan Stebbins also stepped into her role as Grades Assistant like she had been doing it for years.  And, Nerida Nazzaro comes in every other day and covers breaks for our camp leaders. We are so grateful to have had them.

We will close another wonderful chapter of summer camp with new friendships and fond memories!
